The Desert Cancer Foundation (DCF) is welcoming participants for its 16th annual Paint El Paseo Pink, a community walk that raises funds and promotes breast cancer awareness.
This year's Paint El Paseo Pink walk will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8, marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month; the DCF website said.
"Paint El Paseo Pink is a special and beloved event, and we are very grateful to have so many participants, sponsors and community supporters," DCF Executive Director Eevet Edens said in a Patch.com news release this week. "The goal is to raise cancer awareness and funds for our program, both critical and ongoing needs in our community."
The DCF website has several options for registration. Participants may sign up as individuals, register as a team or join an existing team. Additionally, there is the opportunity to donate to the foundation on its website or become a sponsor. The event will kick off 7:30 a.m. at The Gardens on El Paseo, with the walk starting at 8 a.m.
The DCF is encouraging everyone to wear lots of pink. Registration for the event, which costs $35, includes a pink commemorative T-shirt for those who may lack the color in their wardrobe.
The walk is 2 miles long, the release said. El Paseo will be closed off to vehicles from Portola to Highway 74 starting at 7 a.m. and will reopen at 10:30 a.m.
Each year the walk has a turnout of more than 1,600 attendees, which includes participants of all ages and dogs.
