Next week's ribbon-cutting ceremony at Borrego Health's Coachella Valley Community Health Center will mark a milestone toward removing "fundamental barriers to care" for the area's underserved, an interim executive said in a news release.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held, 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the health center at 49869 Calhoun St. in Coachella, will celebrate the clinic's opening "and raise awareness of the services to be offered," the news release said. Tours of the clinic will be available after the ribbon cutting.

"Our primary focus is improving the health of the underserved," Rose MacIsaac, Borrego Health interim CEO and chief financial officer, said in the press release. "Opening the Coachella Valley Community Health Center will alleviate many of the fundamental barriers to care for individuals in Coachella, Indio, La Quinta, Mecca and Thermal by introducing a local option for comprehensive health services in a region that has historically lacked accessible care."

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to be livestreamed on Facebook.

The clinic offers a variety of health services, including urgent care, women's health, dentistry, pharmacy and radiology, as well as family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and laboratory services.
