Coachella residents face meth, child endangerment, attempted homicide charges

After authorities searched a home in Hemet and found a pound of suspected methamphetamine, they arrested three Coachella residents, including two on suspicion of child endangerment.

Arturo Espinoza Jr., 19, Pablo Lopez Vargas, 26, and Desiree Kapri Rodriguez, 27, were all taken into custody Thursday night on suspicion of transportation of methamphetamine for sales, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Heredia said.

Vargas and Rodriguez were additionally suspected of child endangerment, Heredia said. There were no details about the numbers or ages of children allegedly endangered.

And Espinoza was also arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide. The home in the 1000 block of North State Street was searched by the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force as part of an investigation into a shooting Monday in Coachella.

In that case, a man suffered wounds to his chest and neck, Heredia said.  The sheriff's department released no other information about the victim.

Espinoza and Vargas are both documented criminal street gang members, according to the department.

Jail records show all three were booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $50,000 bail.
