Riverside County coroner's office identifies victim of 'suspicious death' in Indio

The Indio Police Department (IPD) welcomes clues from the public for their ongoing investigation into a suspicious death.

Officers found the victim unresponsive on Denslow Street near Date Avenue, according to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department (RCSD). 

The officers answered a call about the man's condition on Tuesday at approximately 3:50 a.m., an earlier press release from the Indio Police Department noted. When Indio Fire/Cal Fire responded, they pronounced the individual deceased at the scene.

"The Indio Police Major Crimes Unit responded and resumed the investigation," according to the IPD press release. "We have no further information at this time." 

The subject line of the IPD press release referred to the ongoing "suspicious death investigation."

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Office publicly identified the man as 42-year-old Jose Lopez of Indio on Wednesday, after his family was notified. The time of injury and time of death was unknown, according to the RCSD press release. 

The Indio Police Department is asking the public to help solve this crime. If they have any information, people can contact the department's Major Crimes Unit at 760-391-4051.
