East Valley Republican Women Patriots (EVRWP) will support Wreaths Across America for the first time this year.
The club will help Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City sponsor and lay wreaths as part of the national organization's Group Sponsorship Program, according to a news release from Wreaths Across America. The organization's mission is to "remember the fallen, honor those who served, and teach the next generation the value of freedom."
National Wreaths Across America Day will be observed on Dec. 17 at the Palm Springs Cemetery District. It is a free, non-political, community event that is open to the public. The event will begin at 12 p.m.
"We are forever grateful to all the volunteers and groups who dedicate their time and effort nationwide to fulfilling this yearlong mission," Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America, said in the news release. "These individuals and their communities know the value of remembering the fallen, honoring those who currently serve, and teaching the next generation about the sacrifices made for our freedom every day, and with their continued support, Wreaths Across America continues to grow."
EVRWP will support efforts to unify the community and celebrate freedom by participating in the program, the news release noted. Club members will pay tribute to the 2,600 veterans laid to rest in Desert Memorial Park with the placement of a live balsam wreath.
Community members are asked to sponsor remembrance wreaths to honor or memorialize fallen American heroes. To sponsor a wreath or learn about volunteering for Wreaths Across America, visit the organization's website.
