Cathedral City Police are on the lookout for the driver of a black sedan suspected of shooting a man Monday night in an apparent road rage incident. The driver and a shooting victim both fled the scene prior to the arrival of police, Sgt. Mark Robles said in a press release.
Responding to reports of gunfire at Date Palm Drive and Perez Road, police located spent shell casings in the intersection, Sgt. Robles said. Police also met a witness stopped in a parking lot just to the west of the intersection sometime after the shooting. Although gunfire sprayed his vehicle, this witness escaped unharmed. As they continued to investigate, officers were able to determine the whereabouts of the missing gunshot victim.
"The victim drove himself to a local hospital and was later contacted by officers at the hospital," Sgt. Robles said in the release.
When police caught up with the victim, they learned that his injuries posed no threat to his life. He told the police the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident. The victim was able to describe the vehicle as a black mid-size sedan but had no information on the suspect. Nor did police name the suspect in their report.
The identity of the victim also was not released in Sgt. Robles' report.
