Greg Wallis and Christy Holstege are in a statistical voting tie among active voters for state assembly, District 47, according to a new survey.
Wallis received 42% of the vote, while Holstege received 43%, according to the survey of likely voters conducted by the Wallis campaign. The other 14% of likely voters said they were still undecided.
The Wallis for Assembly campaign announced the results of a survey Oct. 4. The survey asked voters in District 47 how likely they are to vote for each candidate.
Wallis recently received editorial endorsements from The Press-Enterprise and The San Bernardino Sun newspapers.
"Wallis describes himself as a pro-choice Republican who supports LGBT rights," The Press Enterprise wrote. "He also believes climate change is a serious problem that demands policy solutions."
Holstege, a Democrat, was elected to serve on Palm Springs City Council in 2017 and won the city's mayor election in 2020.
Wallis served as the chief district advisor to the local assemblyman and has experience in crafting public policy.
The new 47th Assembly District is made up of two counties, Riverside and San Bernardino. Riverside County makes up 76% of the voters with San Bernardino County making up the last 24%. The largest city in the district is Yucaipa, followed by Palm Desert.
