The Palm Springs International Film Society recently announced that Cate Blanchett will be this year's recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, for her role in the film "Tár".

"There is no one better suited for this role, and it is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, to Cate Blanchett," Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said in a release

Blanchett will receive the award in person at a ceremony on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The festival will run through Jan. 16.

"Cate Blanchett is truly one of the best actresses of this generation, whose performances are always extraordinary no matter the role," Matzner said. "In her latest film "Tár", Cate perfectly embodies Lydia Tár as an orchestra conductor at the height of her career whose life begins to unravel. There is no one better suited for this role, and it is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, to Cate Blanchett."

This is not the first time Blanchett has been recognized in Coachella Valley. She was previously awarded the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, in 2016 for her role in "Carol" and "Truth". She also received the Career Achievement Award and Ensemble Performance Award for her role in "Babel" in 2007.

According to IMDb, Blanchett has won 172 awards and 231 nominations over the course of her impressive acting career. She received the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in "The Aviator", and the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for the film "Blue Jasmine" in 2014. Blanchett also has garnered Oscar nominations for her roles in "Elizabeth" in 1999, "Notes on a Scandal" in 2007, "I'm Not There" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" in 2008, and "Carol" in 2016.

The Palm Springs International Film Society also said that, in January, Colin Farrell is set to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor, for his role in the film "The Banshees of Inisherin".

"Colin Farrell reunites with Brendan Gleeson and Director Martin McDonagh in the masterful comedy 'The Banshees of Inisherin', Matzner said. "Farrell gives a memorable performance as Pádraic, a sweet-souled Irish farmer trying to save his lifelong friendship. For this career-best performance, we are honored to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor to Colin Farrell.”
