Bicyclist left with 'major injuries' after accident in Palm Springs

A bicyclist sustained major injuries and was unresponsive Tuesday after impact with a vehicle at the intersection of E. Ramon and S. El Cielo roads in Palm Springs.

 According to the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) on Facebook, the bicyclist was likely unconscious when emergency medical service (EMS) personnel arrived on scene and was then transported to a local hospital. As of Friday morning, no further information had been posted on the PSPD Facebook site regarding the bicyclist's condition or identity.

Police dispatch received the report of a collision at the intersection at approximately 5:19 p.m. at which point, both officers and EMS responded.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash cooperated with authorities and remained at the accident site, according to PSPD. Officers said that drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident, which occurred during rush hour on the signaled street.

Following the accident, E. Ramon Road remained closed from Paseo Dorotea to S. El Cielo in both directions as the PSPD Traffic Team continued its investigation before reopening at 8:50 p.m. The department has asked witnesses to this collision to contact the PSPD Traffic Division at 760-323-8125. Alternatively, anonymous information can be reported to Crime Stoppers at 760-347-7867.
