The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert is accepting entries for its Open Call Talent Project, a valley-wide talent show showcasing some of the most talented individuals in the community.

The deadline for talent submissions is Saturday. Live auditions will be held Feb. 8-9, followed by rehearsals March 11-12 and April 17-20. The final performance is scheduled April 21-22, according to information provided by McCallum.

"Open Call is a wonderful experience for all participating performers, from the youngest student to the oldest senior," multiyear finalist Earl Mitchell said on Facebook. "Everyone in the group wants to bring joy to the audience, to be proud of the hard work they've put in to get there and get better at their craft.

"Whether you are a young student trying to make your parents proud, a college student headed for Broadway or a senior just enjoying retirement, this is one of the highest honors in the desert," he added.

According to McCallum's webpage, the project is an opportunity for talented individuals from across Coachella Valley to perform at McCallum Theatre and work with industry professionals. Anyone who can "sing, dance, play an instrument, juggle, do magic, comedy or another self-contained novelty act" has an opportunity to join the production.

The top finalists will be vying for multiple awards and cash stipends, with the grand prize winner taking home $5,000, followed by $2,500 for second place, according to McCallum.

Other awards include a $2,500 prize for the "Audience Favorite" and $750 for "Talent Achievement". In addition, several stipends are offered, including a solo stipend ($250), duet stipend ($500), small group stipend ($750) and ensemble stipend ($1,000).

To get in on the act, performers must be at least 8 years old, reside within a 45-mile radius of McCallum Theatre, not generate 50% or more of wages from performing and commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule for the event.

For those eager to answer this talent call, there is an electronic application available on McCallum's website that can be submitted at no charge.

Applicants must provide a video link per submission, but professional recordings are not required. No more than two entries will be allowed per performer/group, and each entry must be five minutes or less.

McCallum Theatre seeks family-friendly material only.
