U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA), along with a bipartisan majority (225 to 204) of the House of Representatives, voted for H.R. 1, a bill to lower energy costs, on March 30.

“California families just trying to drive to work, heat their homes or keep their lights on have been hammered with higher energy costs,” the congressman said in a news release. “Prices are increasing because President (Joe) Biden and Gov. (Gavin) Newsom have done everything in their power to reduce the production of the traditional energy sources families depend on every day."

Calvert believes H.R. 1 "will put us back on track to produce more energy responsibly and efficiently here in America," he said. " By getting the government out of the way, we can create more American jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and critical minerals and ultimately lower energy costs for the everyday American.”

H.R. 1, known as the Lower Energy Costs Act, contains a number of policy solutions to lower the cost of energy for American families and businesses by providing the exploration, development and importation of energy resources (e.g., oil, gas and minerals).

“It is telling that President Biden and Democrats are all too eager to accept oil from dangerous dictators with no regard for the environment while shutting down American production," Calvert said. "Their climate alarmism is nothing but a red herring to gain more control over the economy, regulate every day American energy usage and lower the quality of life for Americans in the service of big government. I stand with my fellow Republicans to unleash the power of American energy, lower costs across the board, which will spur economic growth and innovation.”

H.R. 1 would unleash American energy and lower costs for families by increasing domestic energy production; reforming the permitting process for industries; reversing anti-energy policies the Biden administration advanced; streamlining energy infrastructure and exports and boosting the production and processing of critical minerals, the congressman said.

A lifelong Riverside County resident, Calvert, who represents the 41st Congressional District of Southern California, has worked as an entrepreneur in the restaurant and real estate fields for 17 years, according to his biography. Aside from serving as a congressman, Calvert has taken on leadership roles with several community volunteer groups, including the Corona Chamber of Commerce, the Corona Rotary and the Corona-Norco Family YMCA.
