Earlier this month, a team of students from Trinity Western University in British Columbia visited the Coachella Valley on a Student Life Program tour and helped renovate the kitchen at the First Community Baptist Church in Desert Hot Springs at 66272 First St. They worked three days to remove all the smoke damaged cabinets, repaint the walls and help install new cabinets.

Last April 2022, the church suffered a severe fire that destroyed parts of the building. Members continued to meet primarily virtually since they could not meet in the building. Though the main sanctuary hall was covered by insurance and has been restored, the insurance did not cover the kitchen, which also sustained severe smoke damage.

Pastor Baylark and his wife Crystal contacted Habitat for Humanity of the Coachella Valley to ask if Habitat could help with this final part of the restoration, and the timing fit perfectly with the Trinity student’s schedule.

Trinity Western University is a private Christian liberal arts college based in Langley, British Columbia. For several years, groups of students have visited the US to tour and do service projects. Habitat for Humanity of the Coachella Valley has been a fortunate benefactor of their volunteer until COVID restrictions halted the program. We are delighted to see them again.
