ALDI is expanding its global discount supermarket chain to include a new Coachella location with an anticipated Thursday opening.
"We're excited to open our first ALDI store in Coachella and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping," Moreno Valley regional vice president for ALDI Tom Cindel said in a Patch article.
A ribbon cutting is slated for 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, at the new store, which can be found at 50180 Cesar Chavez St., a grand-opening announcement said.
"We're new to Coachella, and we can't wait to meet you," according to the announcement. "We've got everything from fresh produce delivered daily to everyday essentials you can never have enough of."
ALDI is expected to carry what supermarkets are known to stock, from meats, seafood, dairy items and baked goods for the table to household supplies; personal-care, baby and pet items; and other necessities.
Cindel described some of the reasons ALDI has a reputation for low prices.
"Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we've been voted the price leader for six years running," he said in the Patch report.
For the first 100 customers to arrive Thursday morning, the reward may be a "Golden Ticket," with an ALDI gift card valued at up to $100, per the grand-opening announcement. From Thursday through Sunday, customers also can enter a drawing to win a $500 gift card.
The Coachella store is one of 120 new stores planned across the country this year, according to a corporate news release. This growth is part of ALDI's vision to operate more than 2,400 stores nationwide before the year's end, the release said.
"While inflation is undoubtedly driving unprecedented demand for affordable groceries, we know that once customers experience the ALDI difference, they keep shopping with us, even when the economy improves," ALDI U.S. CEO Jason Hart said in the release. "Our growth is led by our customers, and they continue to want more ALDI locations coast-to-coast."
