On Aug. 29, Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) announced the start of two new construction projects that are intended to "transform and elevate" the experience for travelers. According to PSP's announcement, the projects will see to the expansion of new retail options, local restaurants, and passenger comforts.
"As Palm Springs International Airport has witnessed tremendous growth over the past two years, it’s vital that our facilities are upgraded to keep pace with our evolving traveler needs," Harry Barrett, Executive Director of Aviation said, according to the announcement. "We are dedicated to providing passengers with not only improved amenities but also an authentic sense of place that captures the essence of the region our airport serves."
According to PSP, the first project is already underway. This project involves the renovation of the gate hold rooms in the Sonny Bono Concourse, and is expected to reach completion in early 2024. Improvements include a comprehensive floor replacement, strategic configuration of passenger service desks to enhance open areas and visibility, upgraded lighting, and various modifications aimed at improving the quality of passenger experience. The concourse has remained open and functional during the entirety of this project, with renovations being conducted in stages.
The second project, beginning next month and wrapping up by 2024, will overhaul the airport's dining and shopping experience. According to PSP, all existing airport restaurants will be fully renovated, and three new eateries and two new coffee shops will be added. Retail options are also set for a major overhaul to accommodate passengers' diverse shopping preferences.
“We recognize that these construction projects may cause some inconveniences for our passengers, and we want to assure everyone that every effort will be made to minimize any disruptions,” said Barrett, according to the annoucement. “We understand the importance of a seamless travel experience and are fully committed to maintaining the highest standards throughout these improvements. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding as we work to enhance PSP for the benefit of all travelers. Together, we are shaping an airport that truly reflects the vibrant spirit and character of our region.”
