The City of Indio has announced that it is now accepting applications for its Community Grants & Sponsorship program. The program offers grants of up to $5,000 to local government and non-profit organizations.

A recent post on the City of Indio's Facebook page stated that the application period for grants will close on Jan. 31, 2024.

In a 2021 press release about the grant program, it was noted that to be eligible, an organization must be a local governmental entity serving Indio citizens or a non-profit as defined by the Internal Revenue Code, such as 501(c)3, and must be in good standing in California.

According to information provided on the City of Indio website, a proposed project must benefit the city or its residents in several ways: It should enhance the quality of life or service delivery in Indio, strengthen the city’s business community, support the city’s overall economic development program or boost the city’s marketing capacity and recognition in the region.

The same source indicated that the total annual amount awarded by the Community Grants & Sponsorship Program is set at $150,000. A total of $25,000 is available for in-kind contributions, which includes city services or locations for events. The program will also consider funding requests for event or table sponsorships.

The City of Indio website further revealed that this is the third round of funding in FY 2023-2024. The application period for the fourth round opens on April 1. Third round applications will undergo a committee review and be decided on in the second week of May. Grant checks will be sent to awardees during the third week of May.
