The Palm Desert City Council has officially approved the adoption of "Map 109 Renumbered B," marking the beginning of a transition to a five-district election system.
A post from the City of Palm Desert confirmed that Map 109 Renumbered B was unanimously adopted as the official district boundaries on January 11.
Palm Desert Mayor Karina Quintanilla formalized the five-district system by signing Ordinance No. 1406 on January 25, 2024, according to the City of Palm Desert's website.
The city's dedicated website for the redistricting process reveals that elections for Districts 1, 2, and 3 are scheduled for November 2024, while those for Districts 4 and 5 will take place in December 2026. The city expressed that this schedule would facilitate the completion of the shift to five single-member districts by the end of 2026. It also clarified that incumbent council members would serve out their current terms.
The City of Palm Desert stated on its website that it had conducted a series of public hearings and workshops regarding redistricting map from September 2023 onwards. These events were designed to solicit feedback from community members who were also invited to submit written testimony. The city explained that the new map lines were drawn with respect to neighborhoods, history, and geographical elements. An interactive district locator map is available on the city’s redistricting process website, allowing residents to identify their district by submitting an address.
