In its tenth season, the Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts will present a concert on Sunday performed by the Bridge to Everywhere ensemble. The concerts are free to attend, but a donation at the door is encouraged.
According to a post on the City of Desert Hot Springs' Facebook page, the concert offers an alternative to watching the Super Bowl. The performance is scheduled for February 11 at Grace Church, commencing at 4 p.m. and concluding at 5 p.m. The eclectic 11-member chamber ensemble, Bridge to Everywhere, will perform a program titled "Crossing Sonic Borders," featuring compositions that blend classical, jazz and world music.
As per the Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts web page, Bridge to Everywhere’s "Crossing Sonic Borders" celebrates global interconnectedness. It comprises five original compositions inspired by Hindustani classical music, electronics, Mexican Son Huasteco, Baroque chitarrone, Greek and Balkan traditions, West African drumming and harmonies borrowed from 19th-century French composer and pianist Erik Satie.
The web page further states that Bridge to Everywhere is not only a chamber ensemble based in Los Angeles but also a non-profit arts organization. As a nonprofit entity, it supports composers, performers and educators who honor cultural diversity through interwoven musical traditions. The organization views its collaborations, performances and educational programs as ways to build bridges between instruments, genres, cultures and people.
The next concert in the series will be performed by Marley Eder, a flutist and Mircea Gogoncea, a guitarist according to the Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts web page. This performance will take place at Grace Church on February 25 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
