The Palm Springs Convention Center is set to host the 30th Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards on March 30, presented by Desert Care Network. The event, also known as "The Chase," will feature a performance by singer and songwriter Barry Manilow and will commemorate the 40th anniversary of DAP Health.
According to a press release from DAP Health, Barry Manilow, an esteemed artist and long-time resident of Palm Springs, will grace the fundraiser with his performance in honor of DAP Health's four decades of service.
The event will also include an awards ceremony recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to DAP Health's mission since its inception in 1984, according to the same release. The 2024 Community Legacy Award will be jointly presented to Mark Adams, Frank Figueroa, Keisha Halverson (Keisha D.), Patrick Jordan, Terri Ketover, Michael Kiner, Andy Linsky, Tori St. Johns and Susan Unger.
Gala Chair Kevin Bass said that the event would focus on the highlights of DAP Health's journey over the years. It will feature a live auction with contributions from El Paseo Jewelers and Hot Purple Energy; each package is valued at $40,000.
The release further states that DAP Health aims to make health care accessible for all people regardless of their health status or insurance coverage. In 2023, this nonprofit made a bid to incorporate the Borrego Health system. This move enabled 1,000 health care workers to serve at 25 clinics catering to more than 100,000 patients — ranging from newborns to seniors. These clinics are spread across Southern California within 240 rural and urban zip codes from Coachella Valley to San Diego coast.
