The Evening Rotary Club of Cathedral City has announced the 17th Annual Fields of Valor event, a tribute dedicated to honoring veterans. The event will take place from November 9 to November 15, 2024, at Patriot Park in Cathedral City, California. The park will feature 2,000 American flags as a tribute to military personnel from the past and present.
"VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
11/8 – 7:00 a.m. to help put in rebar at Patriot Park (please tell your village of friends and businesses)
11/9 – 8:00 a.m. Pancakes and put up flags (please tell your village of friends and businesses)
11/15 – 7:00 a.m. Take down flags and rebar."
The event will kick off with a pancake breakfast followed by an opening ceremony on Saturday, November 9, at 9:00 a.m. This ceremony will include a motor procession by the Cathedral City Police and Fire Departments along Date Palm Drive. Officials from Cathedral City will extend their welcome to the Coachella Valley community for this meaningful tribute.
A special walking procession led by bagpipes will guide volunteers as they set up the flags throughout the park grounds. Each flag is meant to symbolize gratitude and remembrance for veterans. Throughout the week, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., names of local veterans who have passed away will be played on a recorded soundtrack.
Daily observances include:
- Flag Display: Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., beginning Saturday, November 9.
- Taps: Played each day at 4:00 p.m.
- Flag Removal: Friday morning, November 15, starting at 7:00 a.m.
