Today, Congressman Ken Calvert from California's 41st Congressional District announced his nominations for the U.S. Service Academies. As a Member of Congress, Calvert can nominate a select group of young men and women from his district for potential appointments to the Air Force, Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine academies.
"I am proud to nominate these outstanding young men and women from the 41st Congressional District for a potential appointment to attend one of our extraordinary U.S. Service Academies," said Rep. Calvert. "Answering the call to serve our nation is a truly honorable act. These students are extraordinary representatives of our region and, if accepted, will undoubtedly excel at our Service Academies."
The nominees were evaluated by Rep. Calvert's Academy Nominations Selection Committee based on their academic, athletic, and physical qualifications. The service academies will now review these candidates further.
A significant change in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 has increased the number of nominations per vacancy from 10 to 15. This amendment allows more candidates to be considered for admission.
Thirty-five candidates have received nominations from Congressman Calvert:
Air Force Academy nominees include Gianna Almeda (Temescal Canyon High School), Alexander Apotrosoaei (John F. Kennedy High School), Aidan Forehand (Xavier College Preparatory), among others.
United States Naval Academy nominees feature Keani Aboytes (Martin Luther King High School), Carlos Barrientos (Santiago High School), Nathanael Burns (Murrieta Mesa High School), among others.
Military Academy at West Point nominees include Nathaniel De La Cruz (Fountain Valley High School) and Brooke Desteuben (Norco High School).
Merchant Marine Academy nominees include Keani Aboytes (Martin Luther King High School) and Daniel Frumusanu (Norco High School).
