Congressman Ken Calvert has introduced a resolution, H.Res. 142, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. This significant battle in World War II's Pacific Theater saw nearly 7,000 U.S. Marines lose their lives and is remembered for the iconic image of the American flag being raised on Mount Suribachi. Rep. Salud Carbajal is a co-lead and original cosponsor of this resolution.

"The Battle of Iwo Jima tested the strength and will of the American military in the Pacific," stated Rep. Calvert. "The bravery, sacrifice, and determination displayed by our Marines on Iwo Jima continues to inspire us 80 years later. It’s only fitting for Congress to remember and honor those who gave everything and fought so heroically on Iwo Jima to shape the future of freedom that we enjoy today."
