The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has announced a DUI enforcement operation in Indian Wells, California. Scheduled for Friday, June 6th, the patrols will take place from 2:00 p.m. to midnight. The initiative aims to identify and apprehend drivers suspected of driving under the influence.

Deputy Paul Abrego emphasized the preventable nature of impaired driving. "Impaired driving is preventable," he stated. "It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places."

The sheriff's office highlighted that impairment is not limited to alcohol consumption; certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also affect one's ability to drive safely. The public is advised to adhere to medication guidelines and warning labels related to driving.

Despite the legality of medicinal and recreational marijuana, driving under its influence remains illegal in California.

Individuals charged with a first-time DUI could face significant consequences, including an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties along with a suspended license.

This enforcement effort is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
