Man arrested in Blythe for drug charges and resisting arrest

On June 6, 2025, deputies from the Colorado River Station Special Enforcement Team were in Blythe when they identified a man known to them. The individual, Joel Garnica, aged 37 and from Blythe, was recognized as being on probation and suspected of carrying illegal drugs.

Garnica fled on foot after exiting a red Chevrolet Malibu. Deputies pursued him to the rear yard of a liquor store on East Hobsonway where he was apprehended. A search revealed methamphetamine intended for sale in his possession. Consequently, Imperial County Probation issued a probation hold.

Garnica was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail. He faces charges including transportation and possession of a controlled substance for sale, violation of probation, and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $50,000.
