On July 28, 2025, deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of grand theft at a new residential development in the 2000 block of Blue Elm Road in Perris. Deputies discovered that several solar combiner boxes had been stolen from the site.

A subsequent theft took place on August 13, 2025, involving solar charging batteries taken from another new housing development located in the 24000 block of Sirius Avenue in Moreno Valley. The Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) from the Perris Sheriff’s Station took over both investigations. The total value of property stolen across both incidents was estimated at $120,000.

As part of their investigation, RBST identified a vehicle linked to the thefts. On August 13, with help from the Perris Station Special Enforcement Team and Homeless Outreach Teams, RBST executed search warrants at two locations: one on Johns Street and another on Nance Street in Mead Valley. During these searches, authorities recovered evidence connected to the thefts as well as an unserialized rifle and ammunition.

Ignacio Barraza, age 32 and a resident of Mead Valley, was arrested for his involvement in these crimes. Additional individuals were also arrested during the service of these search warrants. All those detained were booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center.

“Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact Deputy Hartert at the Perris Sheriff’s Station at (951) 210–1000.”
