On Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:11 p.m., deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Teams were conducting Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) enforcement in the Perris City area. During this operation, an attempt was made to stop a Polaris RZR OHV that was being ridden on a public street. However, the driver sped away and engaged in reckless driving on the public roadway, posing a risk to other drivers.

A pursuit ensued which covered parts of Romoland, Nuevo, and Lakeview and ended in the hills near Foothill Avenue and Orange Avenue. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old from Menifee. Both he and his passenger were taken into custody without incident. The passenger, also a juvenile, was later released to his parents.

The driver was subsequently booked into juvenile hall for two counts of felony evading and one count of reckless driving.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Perris are committed to ensuring safety for all community members, including those driving on or off the streets. They would like to remind community members that operating an OHV on a public street is not only illegal but can also be dangerous.

For legal off-road locations, community members are encouraged to visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/ivm/ or http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/. For additional information regarding OHV regulations or this incident specifically, please contact the Perris Sheriff’s Station at 951–210–1000 or reach out to the Media Information Bureau.
