The Palm Springs International Film Society has recently announced the expansion of its educational programs to reach students across the Coachella Valley. This expansion includes the continuation of the “Filmmaker in the Classroom” workshops and the Youth Jury program, aimed at nurturing young talent and cultivating a deeper appreciation for the cinematic arts.

According to the announcement, the “Filmmaker in the Classroom” workshops offer high school students a unique opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals. Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi stated, “These initiatives reflect our unwavering commitment to cinematic education.” The workshops are led by esteemed ShortFest alumni, providing students with intimate discussions and valuable insights into the world of cinema. This year, the program will feature Liam LoPinto, director of the Oscar-contending short film “The Old Young Crow.”

In addition to the workshops, students are invited to participate in the Youth Jury program, which offers two distinct jury groups: “Kids Choice” for elementary and middle school students, and “Young Cineastes” for high school students. Through engaging discussions and collaborative deliberations, participants will develop critical thinking skills and champion stories that resonate with their generation.

Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi expressed hope for the continued growth of the society’s educational efforts, stating, “Our student reach has nearly doubled from 2023, and we hope that these are only the first steps in the Palm Springs International Film Society’s educational expansion efforts across the larger Coachella Valley.”

The Palm Springs International Film Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art and science of film through education and cross-cultural awareness. The society hosts various events throughout the year, including the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Film Awards in January, as well as the Palm Springs ShortFest in June. These events aim to nurture new filmmaking talent, honor world cinema masters, and expand audience horizons.
