Two suspects have been arrested in a 2018 Cathedral City murder and are being held on $1 million bail

Two suspects were arrested for connections to the 2018 murder of Ramon Diaz of Cathedral City, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) reported.

“On Tuesday July 25, 2023, Kipko Griffin was arrested for PC 187 by the Riverside County Gang Impact Team, who executed a search warrant at his residence,” the CCPD press release said. “He was taken into custody without incident. Griffin was booked into Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on $1 million bail. Troy Walter Edmund was in custody on unrelated charges. He was also charged with PC 187 and remains in custody with $1 million bail.”

The CCPD reported that two people have been arrested in connection with the 2018 murder of Ramon Diaz of Cathedral City. As per Investigations Commander Rick Sanchez, the CCPD Detective Bureau received an investigative lead that resulted in the discovery of new information, leading to the arrests.

“Working this lead, (police) discovered the suspects and vehicle involved in the homicide,” the press release said. “Through their investigation, the learned the identities of the two outstanding suspects (Troy Walter Edmund 09/13/1978 and Kipko Griffin 11/29/1974).”

According to CCPD, officers were dispatched to the 31000 block of Whispering Palm Trail on March 28, 2018. Officers were alerted there was a victim with a gunshot wound. CCPD transported Diaz to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries. At the time, detectives gathered video surveillance from the area, which showed suspects driving away from the scene at a high rate of speed after confronting and shooting Diaz. At the time, no arrests were made.
