Valley Sanitary District (VSD) commenced its centennial celebrations by hosting over 100 community members at its inaugural Community Open House event on Saturday, April 5, at its headquarters in Indio. This event marked the beginning of a year-long celebration to honor 100 years of dedicated service.

Participants were provided a behind-the-scenes experience in understanding how VSD manages wastewater treatment to safeguard public health and the environment. The event included equipment demonstrations, interactive laboratory activities, face painting, facility tours, a photo booth, and booths hosted by local community partners. Numerous children engaged in a stamp quest, earning prizes while learning about VSD’s infrastructure and sustainability initiatives.

“We are proud to celebrate 100 years of dedicated service with the community we serve,” said Jason Dafforn, VSD General Manager. “Today’s event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community and highlight the essential work our team does every day to protect public health and the environment.”

The event highlights included tours of wastewater treatment facilities, demonstrations of equipment such as a Vactor truck, hands-on activities for children, giveaways, and a stamp quest. Community partner booths were also featured, including participation from the City of Indio, Indio Water Authority, Desert Recreation District, Coachella Valley History Museum, and Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.

This open house is the first of several events that VSD plans to host throughout the year in celebration of its centennial milestone. A formal 100-year anniversary event is scheduled for November 2025.
