The Village People are set to perform at the Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on March 8, 2025. Joining them will be soul legends Tavares. Known as one of the most iconic disco groups globally, The Village People’s music is widely recognized and celebrated. Their debut album in 1977 featured popular tracks like “San Francisco (You Got Me)” and “In Hollywood (Everybody’s A Star).” Initially formed around Victor Willis with session singers, the group gained fame after performing on “American Bandstand.” They became an international sensation following their second album “Macho Man,” also recorded by Willis with session singers.
Their subsequent five-time platinum album “Cruisin” included the hit “Y.M.C.A.” followed by albums “Go West” and “Live and Sleazy.” Victor Willis eventually left the group but not before contributing hits such as “Y.M.C.A,” “Macho Man,” “Go West,” and others. After his departure, both The Village People and disco saw a decline in popularity.
Despite this, various versions of The Village People have toured since the mid-1980s using different lead singers. In 2016, as they approached their 40th anniversary, Victor Willis returned to lead a new version of the group known for its world-class performances.
The Village People have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Their song “Y.M.C.A.” was inducted into both the Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2020 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2022. They achieved two top ten hits in 2021 with “Magic Christmas” and “If You Believe.”
Tavares is an R&B group originating from the East Coast known for their strong vocals and hits like “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel,” She’s Gone,” and “It Only Takes a Minute.”
