Palm Springs, Apr 30 2024 – In an effort to tackle the looming threat of wildfires, the Palm Springs Fire Department is gearing up to embark on its annual brush removal campaign from May 1 to July 31. The initiative will cover 87 acres across 27 high potential wildfire zones in City-owned vacant lots throughout Palm Springs.

Additionally, the Fire Department will be reaching out to residents residing in wildfire-prone areas to assist in clearing hazardous brush from 1,254 residential lots in neighborhoods on the west and south sides of the city.

The official kick-off event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, at 10 a.m. in the Historic Tennis Club Neighborhood at Ramon Road and La Mirada near the North Lykken Trailhead. Firefighters and City workers will be actively engaged in trimming trees and removing potentially dangerous brush that could serve as fuel for wildfires.

During the event, Palm Springs Fire Chief Paul Alvarado will showcase examples of effective brush removal techniques, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures in wildfire prevention. Media personnel are invited to witness and document the tree trimming and brush removal activities.

Fire Chief Paul Alvarado and Public Information Officer Ron Skyberg will be present for on-camera interviews, providing insights into the significance of the brush removal campaign and the critical role of community involvement in mitigating wildfire risks.

For further information, individuals can reach out to Amy Blaisdell, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Palm Springs, at (760) 323-8250.
