The City of Palm Springs is planning on lifting its mask and proof of vaccination status mandates for all indoor events, which also includes restaurants and bars, on Feb. 28.

The initial mandate for proof of vaccination status went into force in August of last year.

“I am pleased to report that our COVID-19 case rate in Palm Springs is now lower than the county and state average” Palm Springs City Manager Justin Clifton said in a post to his official Facebook page on Feb. 24.

Clifton also discussed the rationale for the changes.

“Due to this recent data, case numbers in Palm Springs are expected to decrease even more in the coming week — and we feel confident that local restrictions can now be lifted” said Clifton.

Riverside County previously had one of the highest coronavirus transmissions rates in California, which is when these regulations first went into place. That is not the case now. Once these rules are repealed the city and county will be in line with the existing coronavirus restrictions used by both the state of California and the United States federal government.

Despite these rules being repealed, residents will still be expected to abide by state and federal rules pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic. Coronavirus numbers have declined for consecutive weeks in the county.
