The discovery of two handguns during a search in Indio led to charges against a 15-year-old documented criminal street gang member, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported.

Serving the weapons-related search warrant was a combined effort of the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force with assistance from Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team, Palm Desert Business District Team and Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team. They executed the warrant 6:30 p.m. at a home in the 83000 block of Beverly Court on June 21.

"During the service of the search warrant, Gang Task Force officers located a loaded .40 caliber semi-auto handgun and a 9mm semi-auto handgun. Both firearms were determined to be illegally possessed," Deputy Sgt. Paul Heredia said in a Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release.

As a result of the search, the 15-year-old received several charges, including gang member in possession of a firearm, minor in possession of a loaded firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.  He was transported and booked at Juvenile Hall in Indio.
