On Monday, July 21, 2025, deputies from the Southwest Sheriff's Station responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Shadow Drive in French Valley. The Sheriff's Dispatch had received reports of an armed male assaulting a female and preventing her from leaving with her child.
Upon arrival, deputies instructed the occupants to exit the home. During this process, shots were fired at them from a second-floor window, leading to a deputy-involved shooting. Shortly after, a woman with visible injuries left the house holding a child. She told deputies that her husband had shot her before turning the gun on himself.
The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Her child was also hospitalized for evaluation. Deputies later confirmed that the suspect was deceased inside the residence. Neither his identity nor those of the involved deputies will be released.
The deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave as per Department policy. The investigation is ongoing with no further details available at this time.
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office's Force Investigations Detail will lead this investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Eric Crosson or Master Investigator Martin Alfaro at 951–955–2777.
