The man who pled guilty to felony vandalism at a Palm Springs Starbucks got an early release from jail but will have to get his coffee elsewhere.

Although released from jail, Joshua Moon is barred from coming within 200 feet of the store, Palm Springs Police Department said in a Facebook update.

"On July 28 we reported that a vandalism suspect identified as Joshua Moon pled guilty to a felony vandalism conviction on July 27 and was sentenced to 16 months in jail. On Aug. 1, Moon was released on a 'Fed Kick'," Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) said.

The Fed Kick program prevents jail overcrowding with the early release of non-violent offenders.

Though the time was cut short, a restraining order prohibits Moon from coming anywhere near 201 N. Palm Canyon Dr., the Facebook update said.

Police are asking anyone who observes Moon within the 100-200 block of N. Palm Canyon to contact the PSPD Dispatch non-emergency line at 760-327-1441.

According to a City News Service article on Patch Palm Desert, Moon had been accused of throwing a rock through the front window of the Starbucks Reserve in Palm Springs. His original vandalism charge included enhancement as Moon was on probation at the time. As a result of Fed Kick, Moon was released from jail within three days.

The same Patch article reports that PSPD responded to the vandalism at approximately 7 a.m. on July 25 and was able to locate and identify Moon with the help of a witness. The officers determined that Moon had broken the window from inside the building.
