A man has died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision, and the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) is reaching out to potential witnesses to help locate the driver who left the scene.

Officers are looking for the driver of what they believe to be a newer Honda Civic for his role in the collision, which occurred just after 3 a.m. on Friday, July 29, at Ramon Road and El Placer; an Aug. 6 PSPD Facebook post said.

The victim was found on the ground, responsive but bleeding, and was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted for internal injuries requiring surgery.

"Yesterday we were notified the victim succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision," PSPD said in the post.

As the search for the driver who left the scene continues, PSPD is following a lead on a vehicle that left the scene. A witness who reported the crash to police was said to have heard the impact and then spotted a "small, dark-colored, two-door car" fleeing the scene westbound. PSPD believes the vehicle to be a newer Honda Civic.

PSPD is asking anyone who may have seen the accident or who may have information about the driver or vehicle to contact the PSPD Traffic Division at 760-323-8125. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 760-347-7867.
