An investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department into a fatal shooting at a Coachella party this month has led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male from Cathedral City.
The suspect was booked into juvenile hall earlier this week in connection with the Sept. 2 shooting that left one teen dead and another person critically injured, Sgt. Ed Baeza said in a Sept. 7 news release. The Central Homicide Unit identified the Cathedral City suspect after executing several search warrants Sept. 6 and 7 as part of its ongoing investigation, Baeza said.
"Investigators identified and arrested the suspect in this investigation identified as a 17-year-old, Hispanic, male, resident of Cathedral City," Baeza reported.
The night of the shooting, deputies were confronted with the scene of several gunshots being fired and several people fleeing a party on Calle Sanborn in Coachella, according to the release. It was almost midnight, and deputies were responding to a noise complaint about a large gathering when they heard the gunshots. Upon locating two victims, the deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, according to the initial release.
The two victims, a male and a female, were airlifted to nearby hospitals, where 18-year-old Isaiah Swan, of La Quinta, succumbed to his injuries, Baeza said. Baeza's update identified the second victim as 20-year-old Lailah Dircio, of Desert Hot Springs, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The sheriff's department asks the public to report any further information they have to Investigator Cline of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-529-9394 or Investigator Glasper of the Thermal Sheriff’s Station at 760-863-8990.
