The city of Indio confirmed it will be awarding grants up to $5,000 to local nonprofits through its Community Grants and Sponsorship Program. Applications can now be submitted.

According to a news release from Indio, local nonprofits can apply to get as much as $5,000 in grant funding from Indio. The funding is through City's Community Grants and Sponsorship Program that "underwent recent Indio City Council-approved resolution revisions."

The program awards eligible nonprofits up to $5,000 annually. Total funding for this year is set at $150,000, according to the news release, with an additional $25,000 available for in-kind contributions like city services or locations for events.

"Nonprofits seeking program or project funding from the city of Indio can submit grant applications for up to $5,000 starting Oct. 1, 2022," said a Sept. 22 statement from the city. "Total annual funding is set at $150,000 with $25,000 available for in-kind contributions – items such as city services or locations for events. The grant program will also consider funding requests for event/table sponsorships."

According to the city's news release, eligible nonprofits must have projects and programs that help the Indio or its residents through several specified impacts that include the enhancement of quality of life or the delivery of services in Indio, strengthening the business community of Indio, supporting the overall economic development of the city, and/or enhancing Indio's marketing capacity and recognition in the region.

Although applications will not be taken before October, a PDF of the application is ready for those interested in taking advantage of the program. Applicants must answer questions pertaining to their organization's mission or goals, how the funds will be used if they are awarded, and who the funds will benefit/how they will benefit the community.

Additionally, applicants will be asked to expand on the traits of their organization, for example, the programs they offer, how membership in their organization is structured and how their money is spent.
