Congressman Ken Calvert has introduced a group of students from his 42nd Congressional District that he has nominated to attend U.S. Service Academies.
“I am proud to nominate these outstanding young men and women from Riverside County to attend our U.S. Service Academies,” Calvert said in a press release. “Answering the call to serve our nation is a truly honorable act. These students are extraordinary representatives of our region and, if accepted, will no doubt excel at our Service Academies.”
As a member of Congress who was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and has served in the 42nd Congressional District since 2013, Calvert is able to select a group of qualified individuals from his district for an appointment to one or more U.S. Service Academies, including the Air Force, Naval, Military and Merchant Marine. The nomination process included Calvert's Academy Nominations Selection Committee evaluating candidates who were already seeking a nomination to one or more military Service Academies.
Going forward, the Service Academies will take on the job of evaluating each of the nominees put forth by Calvert based on their academic, athletic and physical qualifications, ultimately extending an appointment to the students deemed to be best qualified.
