One woman was killed and three people were injured in a collision involving a car and a semi pulling two trailers Monday at the intersection of state Highway 86 and Johnson Street in Oasis, California, authorities said.
According to a Twitter post by the Cal Fire/Riverside Fire County Fire Department, crews first responded to the scene at around 2 p.m.
"Traffic collision w/Extrication:rpt@2:04 p.m. Hwy 86 and Johnson St. in Oasis," the post stated. "Passenger vehicle and semi truck involved. Four victims; one minor injured, one moderate injury and two serious injuries."
Two of the victims were transported by helicopter and the other two by ambulance, the department tweeted later. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers also responded.
The Desert Sun reported that the driver of the car, 67-year-old Lucila Lopes-Romero of Pomona, was pronounced dead on the way to Desert Regional Medical Center. A 63-year-old woman was also airlifted to the hospital. The two passengers in the back of the car were transported by ambulance to the local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The driver of the semi was unhurt, the story stated.
According to the story, the truck proceeded through the intersection when the Toyota, driven by Lopes-Romero crashed between the two trailers. Police said Lopes-Romero's car was lodged beneath the trailer's tongue, making necessary for all the passengers of the car to be extricated by first responders.
Police blocked traffic lanes in both directions after the crash, which caused delays until all the lanes were reopened after 5 p.m.
CHP is investigating the incident, the story said.
