Riverside County coroner releases identity of motorcyclist killed in Palm Springs crash

A motorcyclist who died in a Feb. 12 traffic collision in Palm Springs has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner's Office as 33-year-old Chase Adamic of Indio, a Riverside County Sheriff's Department press release said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of East Ramon Road and South Avenida Caballeros, a Facebook post from the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) reported.

"Officers found the motorcyclist had been hit by a van, making a turn in front of him," the post said. "The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene."

Officers also noted that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to have contributed to the crash.

PSPD responded to reports of a vehicle and motorcycle collision just after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, and the traffic unit was called upon to investigate; the department said.

The coroner's report set the time of death at 4:45 p.m. The victim's identity was released after his next of kin had been notified.

In 2020, California reported the second-highest number of motorcycle deaths in the U.S. with a total of 539, statistics from the National Safety Council showed. Florida led the nation with a total of 600. Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio rounded out the top five. Overall, 5,579 motorcyclists died in accidents in the U.S. as reported in 2020.
