A 15-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday at his home in Palm Springs after being positively identified as the shooter at a North Palm Springs residence last month, according to a report by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Jaime A. Hernandez of the Sheriff's Department said Cabazon Station investigators took the teen into custody for shooting at a parked vehicle at residence on the 22800 block of Sterling Avenue in North Palm Springs late on the evening of Sunday, April 16.

"The 15-year-old male juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for the shooting, weapon violations and numerous drug related charges," the news release said.

His arrest occurred on the day investigators executed a search warrant at his home, collecting evidence of both narcotics and weapons.

"During the search warrant, a firearm and large capacity magazines were located," Hernandez said in the report. "Additionally, a large quantity of narcotics was also located and evidence consistent with narcotics sales."

On the day of the crime, it was deputies from the Cabazon Station who reacted to numerous reports of gunshots in the area and responded to the scene at 11:37 p.m., the release said. Reaching the scene within minutes of the shooting, these deputies found a vehicle hit by gunfire in the home's driveway as well as a number of spent shell casings close by, the Sheriff's Department said. The headline of the release brought out that the shooting occurred at an inhabited residence, however, no injuries were reported.

On the following day, April 17, investigators from Cabazon Station assumed the case, and their efforts ultimately led to the arrest in this case.

In the press release, the Sheriff's Department made no mention of motive. The address of the boy where the search took place also was not revealed.
