Desert Hot Springs Police Department responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian

On Saturday, May 13, 2023, at about 12:30 PM, officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Palm Drive and Hacienda Avenue, in the city of Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County.

Based on statements and evidence at the scene, officers determined the driver, identified as Kristiana Raylene Saiz, a resident of Desert Hot Springs, was northbound Palm Drive approaching Hacienda Avenue in a black Jeep Latitude. An 86-year-old male pedestrian was standing near the bus stop on Palm Drive. The Jeep drove onto the sidewalk, struck the pedestrian, and bus stop before fleeing the scene. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Saiz was identified, located, and arrested for hit and run causing death. She was later booked at the Riverside County Sheriff's Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
