Congressman Ruiz: 'I am pleased to announce internship opportunities for college students are available in my congressional offices for the fall of 2023'

Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz is now accepting applications for fall 2023 internships through his congressional offices. The semester-long internship opportunity is intended to help students discover what it's really like to work in the U.S. Congress.

"I am pleased to announce internship opportunities for college students are available in my congressional offices for the fall of 2023," Ruiz (D-Indio) said in a news release from his office. "The semester-long internship is an opportunity for students to gain real work experience in the United States Congress."

Ruiz delved into the role of these interns and the experience they will gain.

"Through my Washington, D.C., and District offices, interns are able to focus on various legislative and communications projects that will further their knowledge of the legislative process and the concerns of everyday Americans in my district," he said. "This internship program is a great way for young professionals interested in government, the legislative workings of Congress and public service to get involved."

Besides valuable work experience, interns will get a boost for their college savings, as Ruiz says, "Both, Washington, D.C., and District office interns will be compensated via a monthly stipend."

Those interested in becoming an intern should provide a cover letter, one-page resume and a writing sample, in addition to completing an application found at: ruiz.house.gov/services/internships. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 7 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time or 8:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

A legislative intern at Ruiz's D.C. office will be assigned tasks that involve drafting letters to constituents, researching legislative issues and writing policy memos for the congressman, according to application details. Additionally, legislative interns will have the opportunity to attend briefings, hearings and markups.

Meanwhile, a typical day for a communications intern at the D.C. office includes tasks such as proofreading, managing the website and compiling daily press clips, the application info said. Communications interns also will develop digital communications and update press lists through media research on national, state and local levels.

A diverse range of responsibilities awaits interns, which may include day-to-day office tasks like answering phones, composing letters and helping with media clips, application information said. Additionally, interns might be asked to assist with constituent case work or contribute to important District-based projects.
