The City of Indio is hosting a Student Anti-Litter Poster Contest for students in kindergarten through grade 12 with the intent of promoting sustainability and providing a platform for young artists. Contest information provided by the city promises cash prizes will be awarded to four winners.
Funded by a Clean California grant, the poster contest will feature the theme "Put Waste in its Place!", according to a city news release.
"Students from grades K-12 (as of fall 2023) who attend a school in Indio are eligible to participate," the news release said.
Those looking to join in the contest should submit their entries to Indio City Hall at 100 Civic Center Dr., Indio, CA 92201. All entries should be addressed to Sara Toyoda, the environmental programs coordinator. Winners will be announced on Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Clean California grant is a comprehensive statewide initiative designed to enhance the beauty and cleanliness of local streets and roads, tribal lands, parks, pathways, transit centers and other public areas. Along those lines, participants in the contest are encouraged to create posters that portray the consequences of litter, demonstrate proper waste disposal methods, or express their personal sentiments regarding littering.
For their effort, four winners will be chosen from each of the three seasonal themes and will receive cash prizes of $100, $75, $50 and $25 respectively, the city release said.
Students in K-12 are eligible if they attend Coachella Valley Unified School District or Desert Sands Unified School District in Indio, according to contest guidelines.
To join in the contest and have a chance to win cash prizes, students must get their submissions in by Aug. 31. For full contest guidelines, eligible schools and further information on how to enter, visit the city's website or use this link.
