Thousands of cyclists are gearing up for the 26th annual Tour de Palm Springs Charity Bike Ride, set to take place this weekend in downtown Palm Springs. This year's event, which is dedicated to honoring first responders, military personnel, and veterans, aims to raise funds for local charities. Since its inception in 1998, the Tour de Palm Springs has succeeded in generating over $4 million for various charitable causes.
The festivities will commence with an Expo on Friday, February 9th, running from noon to 8 p.m. The main attraction, the bike ride and walking tours, will then be held on Saturday, February 10th. Participants will begin their journey at 6:15 a.m. in downtown Palm Springs, with the final group of walkers setting off at 10 a.m.
To accommodate the event, certain road closures will be implemented. On Friday, February 9th, Palm Canyon Drive, between Baristo Road and Tahquitz Canyon, will be closed from 6 a.m. onwards for the Expo setup. On Saturday, February 10th, Tahquitz Canyon Drive, spanning from Palm Canyon to Indian Canyon, will be closed starting at 5 a.m. in preparation for rider departure and return. Tahquitz Canyon will remain closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
As a result of the bike ride, several roads in downtown Palm Springs will be affected on Saturday, February 10th. These include Tahquitz Canyon Way, Avenida Caballeros, Baristo, El Cielo, Mesquite, and Dinah Shore.
In light of these temporary road closures, the Palm Springs Police Department kindly requests drivers to exercise patience and adhere to traffic laws while sharing the road with cyclists. It is imperative for cyclists to also obey all traffic regulations for their safety and the safety of others.
