Riverside County Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez conducted the inaugural State of the Fourth District event on March 18, addressing topics such as health and wellness, housing and homelessness, community services and improvements, infrastructure, and economic development. A press release from Perez's office highlighted the vastness of the district, with Perez stating it is larger than Delaware and Rhode Island combined.
According to the same press release, Dr. Geoffrey Leung from Riverside University Health System spoke about the county's holistic approach to health issues. The focus is not solely on physical health but also encompasses mental health and socioeconomic environment.
Desert Recreation District General Manager Kevin Kalman updated attendees on partnerships that are facilitating new parks' completion and upcoming projects. Meanwhile, the Director of Riverside County Housing and Workforce Solutions Department reported that her office had assisted "more than 5,000 individuals in the Coachella Valley" in the previous year. "We have been able to connect 1 out of 3 people into housing," she said. "And, after three years, 86% have maintained that housing."
The press release also noted discussions on community services and infrastructure with a primary highlight being the newly completed fire station in North Shore. It further stated that Desert Center would see a fire station constructed while communities in eastern Coachella Valley would receive clean water.
Davis Meyer, Vice President of Government & Industry Relations with Visit Greater Palm Springs, underscored the significant contribution of tourism to regional revenue. According to Meyer, the area attracts more than 14 million visitors annually.
