The City of Indio has released a comprehensive traffic plan and street closures for the upcoming 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival. According to the announcement, the Empire Polo Club will host the Coachella Festival on April 12-14 and April 19-21, followed by Stagecoach on April 26-28.
In preparation for the events, Avenue 50 between Monroe Street and Madison Avenue will be closed from March 25 to May 6. The City stated that the closure aims to ensure the safety of workers, residents, and commuters, with alternative routes suggested including Highway 111, Dr. Carreon Boulevard, Avenue 48, and Avenue 52.
Primary access routes for the festivals on select days were also outlined by the City, with Jefferson Street, Washington Street, Monroe Street, Avenue 48, Highway 111, and various I-10 exits expected to experience significant traffic during the event dates.
Furthermore, specific road closures will be implemented on weekends during the festivals, affecting Avenue 49, Avenue 50, Hjorth Street, and Madison Street. The City anticipates additional delays on Mondays following the festivals, particularly around the festival site and Interstate 10, as over 40,000 campers are expected to leave the area.
For those navigating around the festival grounds, the City recommended alternate routes for north and south travel using Washington Street, Jackson Street, Calhoun Street, and Golf Center Parkway, and for east and west travel utilizing Highway 111, Fred Waring Drive, Miles Avenue, Dr. Carreon Boulevard, and Avenue 54.
Attendees were also provided with designated locations for Uber pickups, friends and family/taxi drop-offs, as well as pedestrian access points around the festival site. Notably, golf carts will not be allowed on the specified streets, and around 40,000 guests are set to be shuttled to and from the venue to help manage traffic flow.
