The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in Moreno Valley has announced that they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on May 10, 2024, from 8:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M. at an undisclosed location.

Deputy Julian Antonissen emphasized the importance of such checkpoints by stating, “Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk. Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

The department also highlighted that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol, as some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can also affect driving abilities. Additionally, it was noted that driving under the influence of marijuana, whether medicinal or recreational, is illegal.

Drivers caught driving under the influence face severe consequences, including fines averaging $13,500 and a suspended license for a first-time DUI offense.

Funding for this initiative was made possible through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
