The Green Room Theatre Company in Coachella Valley has announced the start of a new play entitled “Displacement: Stories from Section 14,” based on fictional events occurring in Palm Springs between 1923 and 1973.

This will be the final play of the 2023-2024 season.

The play recounts stories of Black, Latino, and Filipino families who were evicted from Agua Caliente tribal land in 1965, and the development that happened afterwards in what is now downtown Palm Springs.

The play is funded by a Creative Workforce Development Grant from the California Arts Council, and includes visual art like three dimensional pieces and an LED wall background.

Readings of the play will take place at the United Methodist Church located at 1555 E. Alejo Rd, in Palm Springs on June 22 and 23, and the Coachella Community Room at the Library building, located at 500 6th Street in Coachella on June 28, 29, and 30.

Tickets will be based on a pay-what-you-can basis, starting at $15 and up to $40. There are limited free tickets on a first come, first serve basis.
