Michael Shaw, Artistic Director of Dezart Performs, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming 2024/25 season, which promises a diverse range of theatrical experiences. Season 17 begins with the 2019 Broadway political dark comedy "Hillary and Clinton" by Lucas Hnath, running from November 15 to 24, 2024. The play is set in an alternate universe where Hillary is campaigning in New Hampshire in 2008 and faces various challenges.
The season continues with "Fat Ham," a modern-day reinvention of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet by James Ijames. This play will be performed from January 17 to 26, 2025. It explores themes of love, loss, pain, and joy within the context of a Southern family barbecue.
Next on the schedule is Heidi Schreck's "Grand Concourse," running from February 28 to March 9, 2025. The play focuses on Shelley, who runs a Bronx soup kitchen but finds her dedication wavering when Emma, an idealistic college dropout, arrives to volunteer.
The final production for Season 17 is "Falsettos," written by William Finn and James Lapine with music and lyrics by Finn. This contemporary musical will run from April 18 to 27, 2025. It tells the story of Marvin's complex relationships after leaving his wife for his lover.
Season subscriptions went on sale starting July 26, while individual tickets will be available from September 13. All performances are scheduled at the Pearl McManus Theater at the historic Palm Springs Woman’s Club in Downtown Palm Springs. Ticket prices range between $57 and $66.
Dezart Performs has also announced plans for a new venue called Dezart Playhouse in Cathedral City. The new space will feature versatile seating arrangements and modern amenities such as expanded dressing rooms and backstage areas. The goal is to raise $2.2 million for converting a former retail space into this state-of-the-art Equity Theater.
